On March 25, 2009, my office attended an open house for representatives at the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) in Orlando, Florida. This is the office of Administrative Law Judges (ALJ): Betty Barbeito (Hearing Office Chief Judge); Chester Senf; Philimenia Jones; Douglas Abruzzo; Robert Marcinkowski; Douglas Walker; Albert Tutera; Apolo Garcia; Mary Montanus; and Joseph Rose.
We were welcomed by the Hearing Office’s Chief Administrative Law Judge Betty Barbeito and the hearing office director, Karen James. Judge Barbeito was excited to tell us about her office’s goals and the changes that were occurring nationally as well as within her office.
She announced that of the 157 newly hired ALJ, her office was anticipating adding two more ALJ’s to the current ten in residence.
Judge Barbeito stated that since last year’s open house, the hearing offices were able to reduce the old age cases from about 166,000 to 70,000 nationally. There are still approximately 9000 cases waiting to be worked up and scheduled for hearing in the Orlando office.
